Therapy for Chronic Pain and other mind-body symptoms

I am very passionate about working with folks who suffer from debilitating chronic pain and other somatic (body-based) symptoms. Despite significant research showing that chronic pain conditions can be treated very well with psychotherapy, many people have never heard of this possibility.

Chronic pain and somatic symptoms can take many forms, with some of the most common being neck, shoulder, and back pain, migraines, headaches, GI issues such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and fibromyalgia. These conditions can have profound impacts on your quality of life, cause intense suffering, and drain your energy and attention.

My approach

My approach draws from Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), a method developed by therapist Alan Gordon that uses brain rewiring techniques, tailored mindfulness practices, and education about the neurobiology of pain to build new ways of relating to symptoms. Many clients see a significant reduction of pain symptoms and even total remission. I always recommend meeting with a doctor first to determine the cause of symptoms, whether they are structural or neuro-plastic (meaning created by the brain) which will help us develop a most effective treatment plan.
